It’s not strictly worse than confusion but it does suck and it’s usually worse than confusion
Although it’s harder to land than confusion and doesn’t deal any damage it doesn’t go away unless someone switches out and nearly every Pokémon can learn attract

Anyway you would fucking hate it if infatuation was any stronger because it would be fucking annoying beyond belief. The game is best off with it being effectively unusable.

Confusion is already worse though.
>Confusion causes you to hit yourself 1/3 times
>Infatuation causes you to do nothing 1/2 times
in the grand scheme of things infatuation is better since confusion damage is almost totally negligible nine times out of ten

There's something here. It's easy to imagine something like Hydreigon having low Charm stat and something like Jigglypuff having high. But Pokémon like Jigglypuff are the ones who are given stuff like Attract/Cute Charm in the FIRST PLACE, so just be sure to make sure that Charm stat isn't too broken when it's maxed out.

Having a low Charm stat (scariness) should have its own benefits. For example, if you send out something with low Charm (Ariados) against something with high Charm (Cleffa) then the high-Charm Pokémon may not be able to switch out because it's too scared.

Just make more moves/Abilities/secondary effects that can cause/be influenced by infatuation.
As of right now, the only things that can cause it are Attract and Cute Charm, or a Pokemon holding a Destiny Knot.
All Pokemon that have Cute Charm have better abilities. Pokemon need all of their moveslots for something more applicable than Attract. Infatuation is so rare, Destiny Knot has no use.
Just make it more common. Have attacks that have a chance of inflicting infatuation. Have a move that deals more damage to infatuated targets. Have an ability that increases a Pokemon's stats when it becomes infatuated. Something that prevents them from switching, something that fully heals them, something that makes others be forced to target them in Doubles, I don't know. Keep going with things like this until it's an applicable status ailment, and not just some afterthought.

I never even realized this was something we were missing. Is there not a single damaging move that can infatuate??!?

Heart Stamp should infatuate, not flinch. And it should be easy enough to come up with a usable Fairy attack that infatuates when it hits.

Make it so that the infatuated pokemon that hits the pokemon its infatuated with gets a random stat drop everytime it lands a hit instead of just another confusion/paralysis situation, this way it adds some depth to the status effect, you can risk keeping your mon and roll the dice on what debuff you get or switch to get rid of it.
