So why did pokemon take a shit after X and Y?
I bought Sheild and my god does it suck. Game is easy mode while time, the encounters are lame af, the pokemon are lame af, the community is split on it. I remember when x and y came out everyone was excited, shing hunting, doing trade giveaways, exchanging friend codes and helping with strats.
Game feels so shallow now. Dynamaxing is a horrible mechanic too. What happened? I'm currently replaying Coliseum and Gale of darkness on my GCN emulator alpha sapphire and it's so much more fun and the animations are ahead of a 2019 game. What the hell happened????

GameFreak have always been bad developers carried by a concept and their ability to make fantastic designs, they were never ready for the jump to 3D and in doing so they made all the series' flaws that much more apparent.

Multiplied their workload by making fully 3D mainlines mandatory where there is clearly no technical competence and then allowed themselves to be sandwiched by shorter deadlines with horrible PR management and sarcastic "Haha don't get your hopes up" type remarks ahoy. They knew what they were getting themselves into. Maintaining quality was never the prerogative after Gen V.

You're just autistically mad at the game, so you're pretending it's worse than it is and that it has no one interested in it. This very board is full of threads for shiny hunters and wifi interaction and raids, and they keep on trucking regardless of shitposting happening outside of them.

Also lol at "colloseum is much more fun" when it has literally every flaw SwSh except that it trades off decent difficulty for the fact that it has zero online battling multiplayer.

SM and USUM were fine games, even the best of the era by some accounts. The easiness has always been there. This is absolutely nothing new, but gamer expectations have changed and the fan backlash to the gameplay easiness is a problem for GameFreak now in a way it never was before. Part of the issue is streamlining and cutting grinding removed any illusion of difficulty so people have even more to latch on to.

Another thing is what you said in your own post, the fan community is divided, and when a good amount of the sense of fun comes from how positive the community is feeling and amplifying excitement, SWSH have not had a very good run with the current feeling online.

Lastly everyone is used to Pokémon now, so none of it feels novel or something to explore, the mechanics are split between comfort mainline games and the much more complex competitive scene which is not flashy or “fun” in the sense of an RPG. Meanwhile TemTem is getting all this buzz just by making Pokémon feel “new” again in some small tweaks to gameplay.

I want Pokémon to come back swinging and make a mockery of their competition probably based on irrational loyalty alone but I am willing to give Temtem a chance. If it was on Switch now and fully completed I’d buy. However I agree that the designs are awful. Pokémon have always had an element of figuring out new creatures and matching them to real life inspirations, but Temtem look very samey and barely avoid the Neopets aesthetic. I also wonder if their lore will ever matter to the point that people will know their regions and characters the way we all know Sinnoh or Ghetsis.

It has been in massive decline since gen 5. The current state of the games is just following the natural course of events.
People keep buying games that decrease in quality with every new generation so it makes sense we would eventually see an unfinished game with overpriced DLC as the norm.

Why didnt they outsource the animations like they did with genius sonority. Go the Coliseum and Bate rev route?? They are the most funded dev team in history in charge of the world's largest franchise. Some of the excuses I see are very sub par with their status and seems there is partisan thinking due to brand loyalty on the fans part. Anyone who points out valid reasoning to why they are displeased is met with an "aycktually" followed by a opinion.

Sun and Moon made the trials the plot, trivialized the "evil team" and made routes smaller and less explorable. SwSh takes the worst of Sun and Moon by making routes barren hallways without even ride Pokemon to open new areas, giving you two random rivals with zero plot significance, making the "evil team" just annoying fans of said rival, and keeps the general task of completing gyms the same, except less unique and challenging than trials. Let's Go, while being a blatant cash grab phone game tie-in with awful catch mechanics and a severe limit on Pokemon and areas is still a better game than Shield and Sword solely because it takes the base game of Yellow and expanded on the towns and characters in a way that I can appreciate. Fans of the series generally dislike games after gen 5, which I agree is the peak of the series, because of the lack of polish, features, and amount of content makes 3ds and switch era games feel incomplete and we'd like to see more games like BW2 and HGSS where fans were spoiled

I honestly think they're deeply embarrassed by the state of SwSh but aren't allowed to say so publicly.
Ishihara won't let them delay games anymore so they have to rush to meet unreasonable deadlines.

It's not Nintendo, it's TPCi. They're responsible for most of the marketing decisions around the franchise as a whole and they want a new generation every three years exactly. Delaying a new gen by a year would cost millions of dollars.

It would cost millions that year but the return in revenue would be insane for a good game. GTA5 (I'm not saying it perfect or good but has high standards) sold for full retail 5 years after the launch and then started discounts. The amount they made in that 5 years was disgustingly high. Why? People.were willing to pay for a quality experience. These hot and drop games make no one money but investors and big wigs. They milk the studios dry with little funding for more work and content and then they sink and the iust move on to another studio or IP. Choosing to lose a few million to gain a few hundred isn't a big deal especially for a franchise like this. The biggest in the world. It even dwarfs disney. It's just greed and we feed it sadly with our money and people defend it.

What you're saying is usually true but does not apply in the case of Pokemon. The first pair of a new generation is almost guaranteed to sell 15 million copies.
On top of that, most of the franchise's revenue is NOT from the games, but from merchandise. The reason delaying the games would cost millions is that it would hold up all the merchandise. It would also piss off the third-party licensees who manufacture that merchandise.

I keep saying this in different threads, but people are way too eager to blame Masuda for what's clearly Ishihara's fault. Masuda's passion for the series has never waned, but he and the rest of Gamefreak are constrained by business decisions made by the people they share the IP with.

What stops merchandise from just releasing ahead of games? Imagine if you can buy never before revealed Gen8 pokemon ahead of game itself...

The lack of familiarity would impact sales on the merch. Imagine if you saw merch for a game you couldn't play yet or alive that has never been announced and the merch is also sub par to begin with. You will buy something else. When people talk about these company's and pokemon, they act like people dont have other interests and hobbies to spend money on.

If you just released, say, Minior plushies before Minior appeared in any games, no one would even notice.
Of course you could construct a marketing push around that sort of thing, but it's only really practical to do this for a few pokemon at a time and licensees likely just want to churn shit out and get their money.

I would assume its bootleg or not from a pokemon franchise if I saw merch before a new gen was announced. So I would have no reason to look at it and realize it has a pokemon official tag on it and buy it. Also people buy shit and shirts not just because they like it but because they want some schmuck on the street or elevator to be like "yo cool shirt man, I love Flygon, where you get it?"
