Guys, what would a mainline game made entirely by lifelong fans and funded by Nintendo look like? No monkey's paw, no Cease-and-Desists, just a gorgeous, perfect mainline game with real effort put into it.

Do we have an unlimited budget, or no?

I feel like fans wouldn't get Pokemon designs right. Otherwise, it would probably add tons of old features and have a more coherent story. I don't expect a lot of good NEW content, but old content being polished and improved.

Assuming it's life-long fans who actually know how game dev works and not just a bunch of 30-somethings crashing into Nintendo's offices to ask questions about unity or rpg maker or whatever popular prepackaged engine they agreed on, it'd he great. When the whole team know how special it is and has a personal connection to the final products - something that the actual notable devs at Game Freak can't have in the same way BECAUSE of the difference in perspective they gained from working on the original games - they'd be able to look back and take apart the games to pick out what resonated with them and the millions of others to identify the most important things to focus on and polish those to the best of their abilities, then work on other features that add to the overall experience. I can't say which features will make the core list other than the obvious things like exploration, battles, and bonding with your pokemon as you grow stronger and expand your collection, but I know from looking at other games that were made to be as much a tribute to their great predecessors as they were continuations of the legacy and ended up being solid entries that this is the best thing that could possibly happen to pokemon.

Look at Doom 4 (and what we've seen of Doom Eternal so far), none of the original devs are on the team and they've successfully brought everything the original had to love into the modern era while adding enough of their own stuff as people who understand what compliments the original gameplay to make it more than jist an hd reboot like Doom 3 tried and failed to be. Look at Sonic Mania, all the classic action just the way the fans have been begging for yet was somehow too much for Sega to deliver on their own. Look at Spyro the Reignited Trilogy, they had to rebuild everything from the ground up and manually catalogue old assets because most of it either didn't exist anymore or was unusable and despite being a 1:1 remake they still found ways to improve it.

If we talk about your run-of-the-mill fans then it will be worst game ever, not only as Pokemon game but overall. Your normie Pokemon fans, with most developers included, have no sense of what good gameplay is.
If we take few of the sensible fangame makers like... dunno... Koolboyman, Spherical Ice, Ragni, Doesnotknowhowtoplaythisgame (or Doesnot for short) then maaaybe we would get something interesting and good.

I mean, they all made something actualy good so i guess they at least have some sense of balance and understanding how Pokemon game should look like. Sure they don't have more modern understanding of technology (or have, i don't know what they do outside of hacking, besides KBM working on its own game), but throwing some programmers and shits into this mix should make something good.
