Pokebank will have a free trial period in which you can transfer every Pokemon you need, or you can instead get a month of Nintendo online for $3.99 and anons and wonder trade and max raid battles will probably get you most of what you need. In Reality, this is a better deal than two DSs + two games.
The big points against this are purely psychological -- just our innate reaction to "2.99+$4 shipping" instead of "6.99+Free shipping." We immediately take "secondary costs" to be significantly worse than primary ones.
