>>42514987Because now everyone constantly checks the Internet, and the Pokémon series had to adapt to that. Back then they would release a new game with about at least 90 new Pokémon every 4 years or so, and most people would discover them naturally by playing the game. After a while they would start teasing some of the Pokémon from the next games and then the cycle repeated. This way you always had new Pokémon to find and get used to. That isn't possible anymore. Now when a new game releases, everyone likely sees all of its new stuff online even if they don't want to. This is why they include less Pokémon with each new game and also why they're constantly revealing new Pokémon. It's a slow transition, but I'm sure they'll completely abandon the concept of a "new generation", instead releasing Pokémon slowly through new games, updates and DLCs spread through the year. I've been saying this for years and as time goes on it becomes more and more true.
