Every Gen has great Pokemon. In fact, the consistently high quality of the creature designs is the only reason this shitty franchise gets by. The gameplay has been lightyears behind its competitors since Gen 1, and has barely changed since then besides gradually dripfeeding us QoL changes.

One thing that I like about this gen is how drastic most evolutions are, I guess they were trying to avoid the "just gets bigger trope" from Gen 1 in Gens 2 and 3.

No, some gens are worse than others. Gen 5 is hit or miss with its designs, but it has hits. Gen 8 meanwhile is all just misses or "oks".

The funny thing is that calling them Toriyama eyes is completely inaccurate. If you look at his character designs over the years, you'll find fucking nothing consistent between them. To place Gen 1 below 3 because of this is fucking retarded, especially since it doesn't make the designs worse even if they were copypasted from Dragon Ball's characters.
