Look at the things you outspeed by running max speed jolly, it's quiet a lot of important pokemon you need to be faster than. Most important ones are modest/adamant Clefable and Aegislash.

Because 55 is fast enough to outspeed defensive Clefable, Aegislash, Silveon, Seismitoad, Tyranitar, etc.
Gen 8 speed tiers are quite a unique thing which sadly we'll never see again.

I mean I just got into the series like halfway into gen 7 so I never learned too much about the meta outside 4 and 5.

Crawdaunt was always bad because it was too slow, how else is someone that hasn't even used showdown yet alone the inferior version of Sharpedo?

When they buffed knock off in gen 6 Crawdaunt got a niche as a wallbreaker with choice band or swords dance to murder shit with adaptability boosted crabhammers and knock offs.
It was also used on dedicated trick room teams which were semicommon last gen

Gen 6+ Knock Off power is multiplied by 1.5 when it's used on pokemon holding an item. So it's essentially 97.5 bp.

40 bp is just too low to be used as a main attacking move.
It works for priority moves because they're used to pick off already weakened pokemon.

Aqua Jet is a rather common move yet is weak.
Knock Off was ment to not be a main move, it was a gimmick move like trick or snarl. What if they buffed snarl to be 90 power and then make it sharply cut special attack instead of just slightly? See my point? It already had crunch and at least 2 other dark moves that would suffice.

It's a wallbreaker, so you still want the speed to outrun slow walls even if you're not catching up to other offensive threats. Not like Crawdaunt is taking many hits even with HP investment
