Is this what the anime is going to be for the rest of its run? A retread of events Ash has already done with Go effortlessly catching Pokémon he’ll never use?

Well, I'm hoping that Leon introduces the Galar League to Ash, so at least he'll have a goal.

Go's obviously the MC in this series, so we'll probably just, as you said, see him catch and evolve a bunch of -mons Yo-kai Watch style.

I'm waiting for the Alola episode to make a proper judgement on this series. If Ash and Go just go there, meet a random CotD, and then go back to Kanto, without seeing any character or pokémon from SM, or without even mentioning that Ash is the fucking Champion of the region, then I'll lost all hopes for this glorified Pokémon GO ad.

Calling the series just “Pocket Monsters” and having Ash travel across a region per episode does seem like they are done with the traditional formula.

Didn't stop them from making the Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh episodes just boring "filler" with little to no references to the previous seasons.

Yeah thus far, not really liking it. It actually annoys me more that they confirmed this series is in the same cannon as all the previous series.

This guys the first Alola Champion and no one notices him?

He's going back to all these all regions he's already been to, but never mentions that, or comments that "Hey! Caterpie was my first catch too", or "I caught a Tailow and evolved it!".

The way to due this was a massive nostalgia trip, they haven't interested any interesting characters in these other regions so why not just bring back old ones.

How epic would it have been if Ash went to the Hoenn Battle Frontier and Tyson was there competing.

Or if when he went to Sinnoh, Barry was competing with Empoleon.

If we aren't referencing old characters or places, what is the point of even mentioning the old regions.

It's still early on so I guess it's premature to make a judgment. The Kanto Battle Frontier arc did have one-off appearances by Agatha, Misty, Tracey, Butch, Cassidy, Brock's family and Gary. But it didn't feature any of the memorable CotDs or locations from the original series. It's hard to say what this series will do later on.
