Okay, so they're bringing back old pokémon, and eventually (with one or two more ex passes) SwSh is going to be compatible with all 850+ mons in the nat dex.

But what about Megas? Are they ever coming back?

Ohmori (new Director of the series now Masuda's stepped back into a Producer's role) said no game will have the full National 'Dex going forward kid. They cut it, so they didn't have to worry about supporting all the models (which apparently have been a problem since development of XY) with their timescales and release windows. Please don't expect anything more than announced, they DO have Home they want to sell you also, you know.

Megas will eventually come back.

At the very least, they have to come back for the Gen 6 remakes in a few years. But even outside of that, Mega Evolutions appear in Let's Go. Pokemon Masters and the Mystery Dungeon remake. So, the Pokemon Company clearly hasn't forgotten about them and their popularity . They'll come back eventually. At the latest for the Gen 6 remakes, but they may use Megas to sell remakes or Let's Go games where they'd be exclusively available
