If Pokémon were real how long would it realistically take to catch them all 900 (barring mythicals and legendaries), assuming they all live in equivalent habitats to the ones in the games?

Well how much does a pokeball cost? How much does the upkeep of one pokemon let alone 900 + cost? How much would it cost to store them? What about animal cruelty laws in your country? Real life is not the video games, real life is expensive and full of bothersome morality so I don't think it'd be realistic to catch even a few let alone all in real life.

Yet the only reason you'll spend for a pokeball is due to "asthetics" of the pokeball.

Not much because if you are thinking of capturing them all you'll be living off the land more than anything. So at the bare minimum you'll need a travel pack kit shit. Which isn't much.

Also realistically just look at steve or other people that study animals and how many they study/gather per year. It ain't as hard as this person believes.

I imagine there would be some limit in place that would keep you from actually doing that. Some species (Lapras, Farfetch'd, etc) would be rare enough to mandate legal protection from trainers and I wouldn't be surprised if they set a maximum mon limit to prevent abuse and neglect since there's really only so many mons you can realistically give proper care to.

No you need 900 + as you are trying to catch them all meaning you need to spend $5,400 at least and that is assuming a 100% catch rate

Also consider those visits to the vet to heal up your pokemon. It ain't free in real life, its standard practice to charge $45 BEFORE seeing the Vet and having them diagnose your animal then they charge you more for treatment.

Also consider Pokeballs seem to more or less lock Pokemon in stasis, with more modern balls preventing damage from poisons and all balls preventing burns (although it's arguable with how Pokerus spreads).

I don’t think so, if the regions are supposed to be as large as their real-world inspirations, then It’d probably take a lifetime to travel to every single region and catch all of the Pokemon Catching all of the Pokemon in a single region might be possible though —especially in regions like Kanto where there are only 150 species.

In game, that wouldn't apply in real life as even the anime shows that they must be let out of their ball routinely for feeding, exercise and treatment. Furthermore you again ignore real life animal welfare laws. They'd apply to Pokemon in balls as much as in cages.

If you were to go straight out realistic, just imagine what it would be like to capture 900 actual earth animals.

Now imagine they had super powers.

Ok, now give yourself the basics from Pokémon, Pokéballs, your own Pokémon to battle, ect. It's still fucking hard as shit. You'd have to traverse the world, to all locations. Hunt them down, battle them, capture them.
Imagine having to capture Pokémon that live inside volcanos.

Yesterday I was watching some show where this guy was fishing for 700lb stingrays, after 2+ hours of fighting with this thing, his $1000+ fishing rod snapped and his arm and shoulder got proper fucked.
