Upon seeing Ho-Oh, a Pokemon unknown to him, Ash realizes that there's a great big world out there with mysteries and adventures.
It's an inspiring event for Ash to leave home and go on a Pokemon quest.

But it was seen six or seven times during the series, across many seasons. Why? Is it following Ash? Does it have any real kind of significance other than being mysterious for the sake of it?
The Ashnime is garbage, so it's not surprising that there's really no answer other than Ho-oh sightings being a "remember this?" moment, but it's a little insulting that it's so blatant.
