It really is more challenging. No savescumming, so if you lose to your rival its a permanent stain on your record. Doubles battles and stamina system means forced set mode. Stamina system and hold moves mean you cant just spam your most powerful move. Not being able to oneshot mobs and trainers as well despite level difference combined with slow income means that dungeon attrition is much more taxing. Of course its not like people here appreciate the challenge
