It's not like he's against controversial takes. Did you miss the part where he hates Lucario and loves Garbodor? It's just the Decidueye vs Incineroar shitflinging was insane for the first 2 years of Gen 7, so I can't really blame him for avoiding that.

the posture is fine, it's the arms and costume that make it humanoid. if the wings were just wings instead of used like arms and hands and if the hood was worked into a more natural design that was still part of the body and face it wouldn;t read as a guy in a suit.

Bogleech is an artist who specializes in 'gross' horror-esque concept art and horror themes, but in a somewhat goofy and realistic way. Rillaboom is cool in fanart but really inconsistent with past pokemon. The drum is important to the design and there’s not a good reason the Pokémon cannot include an item. I’m not even referring to Marowak or Faafetch’d — this is clearly a more severe case of prop reliance. The problem with Rillaboom in my opinion is 1. The obviousness of its progression into a drummer (although this is not relevant to the design)
2. The leaf belt, the diamond markings on the back, and either the abdominal or butterfly markings. There’s too much going on for beauty but I think that’s the point. I have full confidence that whomever designed this thing knew how to make it more perfect but didn’t want to, or more likely wanted to make it more garish as appropriate for a rock n roll gorilla. I very much enjoy that Thwackey’s face becomes Rillaboom’s Chest marking, suggesting that it’s ears actually become arms. Overall I feel a little sad that Rillaboom just isn’t for me. I imagine the drum remained from a scrapped komala evolution, and my head canon is that Rillaboom found kmoala’s log and used it for the drum. Idk
