>>42564319>but it doesn't need a subscription service and it doesn't need to be separate from the actual games eitherAgain, I completely agree that Home should be free if you don't want to use the cloud service.
>that nonsensical Game Freak "logic"It's not nonsensical. If you transferred a pokemon to gen 6 from gen 7, it would erase hyper training and anything else that isn't stored in the gen 6 data structure. The only time we've ever had backwards transfers was from gen 2 to 1 and it required a lot of fucky workarounds like making Special Defense and Special Attack use the same IV.
>Home wouldn't allow you to transfer anything from gen 7 to gen 8Again I think you're misunderstanding me. I'm not saying you'd be able to transfer backwards - I don't think this will ever be the case. For example, it would overwrite mints if you went from 8 to 7.
What I'm saying is that you'll be able to trade gen 8 and 9 pokemon for each other from a single program, without needing to switch between games. Note that this also means you'll be able to make trades for pokemon that aren't available across games.
To give an example, if we get Sinnoh remakes you'll be able to trade Galar pokemon for Sinnoh pokemon directly, rather than having to trade Galar pokemon for something available in the Sinnoh games, then transfering it to Home, then transfering it to the Sinnoh game, then trading for a Sinnoh pokemon. Of course I'm aware this could be solved by just having all the pokemon in the game, but that's a different discussion entirely and as things are right now, it doesn't seem like that will be happening.
