Archie is better. At least he has the excuse of being an idiot, meanwhile Maxie's a scientist with an IQ above 200 but can't seem to find the obvious flaws in his plan.

Primal Groudon can create magma out of nothing. Maxie's plan was just to create more landmass, the heat was just a side-effect he underestimated.
It was a crazy plan, but nobody was supposed to get hurt.

Archie, meanwhile, was literally trying to kill people. There's no way around it, he wanted to create floods which would kill thousands. Kyogre's heavy rainfall wasn't a side-effect, it was his goal. And then he gets cold feet for no real reason.

Maxie is better. At least Maxie makes some sense.

Tbh Maxie doesn't even feel like much of a villain than Archie does, even in the remakes. Just because Archie's character actually would support his plan to awaken Kyogre and create more ocean whereas Maxie's character, especially in the remakes, comes over as too logically driven to not spot the blatant flaws in his plan to awaken Groudon to create more land.

He had no reason, or at least we were given no reason, for why he wanted to create more land mass. Assuming the Pokemon World is similarly proportioned to ours, the entire human race could live in a space the size of New York. Even accounting for Pokemon partners they have more land than they'd ever need. Literally 0 reason to create more land.

That's actually sort of the opposite. Animals love to claim land and will keep doing so if they can. If he's talking about human turf wars, then it's still untrue since the goal is almost always to get more resources than the enemy.

No because the magma would still release poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere. Even if Maxie’s goal was to lower the land:water ratio to 50:50, that would still cause mass death of ocean life.

all of that is avoided by literally just not using groudon on an occupied island. the amount of gas volcanic eruptions spew out is relatively small compared to humans and really wouldn't be a big issue in a world as clean as pokeman world

Not really. Tons of animals and ecosystems are still dying and the ashes would make any land animal that avoided the magma on those islands ill, destroying more ecosystems. Since they're gonna be killing a lot of fish, it'll likely become scarce and get quite expensive (which has to hurt a bit considering they're an island).

There aren't any pokemon or ecosystems on empty, remote islands. local fish won't be affected too much because volcanic gunk stays on the surface. if anything fish would benefit because the ash contains a ton of nutrients microorganisms like plankton which indirectly exit in pokemon through wailmer line thrive on

The tiny islands in Hoenn don't look very deserted, anon. How do you know there aren't any rock pokemon in there?

Actually, magma can kill a lot of marine life and cement them into the solid as it rises to the top, as well as kill some of their homes. Since they're going to do this a lot, it's going to kill a lot. Let's hope those ashes are put to use then.

This. I don't think most Pokemon fans understand how delicate the balance between sea and landmass is to earth's existing ecosystem. Even if both bosses got what they wanted, they would have likely caused a few extinctions along the way and probably cause lasting damage to what environment is left over.
