the overall dex is way too cute and misses the point, but i like a lot of the redesigns. points for making magneton not look like the unacceptable trash pile it is while still being faithful.
i actually hoped SwSh were a reboot. that would've been the only excuse for how shitty they are

Gen 1 is actually one of, if not my least favourite gen in terms of Pokémon designs, and I quite like Gens 5 and 6, so in theory, I should like these redesigns, but Christ these are horrible.
The only ones I like are Farfetch'd, Rapidash, Seel and the Magnemite line.

I got the feeling this person wanted to criticize genwun designs with how bland they were, but ended up making nugen designs look worse by pumping the "roundness and cuteness" of more recent gens to 11.

My preferred Pokémon redesign collection is the Fire/Fighting dex.

I unironically like them but they're a clear departure from actual Pokemon design. The memes and pop culture references are there, but where are all the noodle limbs, the facial hair and object-with-eyes Turnermons? This dex has so much more personality and consistency than any future dex ever will, because it's designed without the limitations of having to model, pose and produce merch for each mon.

Completely misses the point of a lot of the designs and just redesigns them to be cute or what I assumed they were trying to do, "modernize" them.
This mentality of everything having to look incredibly dumbed down or overly cutesy and marketable to be modern is dumb as fuck this Machop redesign >>42562843 looks more modern without looking like a fucking plush.
