20.000 Years ago a meteor killed a Dragalge. After AZ make the weapon (what creates the mega-evolution) he created another Dimension. And in this Dimension, the dead Dragalge was reborn as Eternatus (with the power of the weapon, Eternatus can use the Dynamax).
The color from Eternatus is similiar to Eternal Floette. That is the "reason" why Eternatus have another color.

It's poison because its energy is similar to nuclear energy, being exposed to radiation can cause odd effects which in the Pokemon world is dynamaxing.

You should have noticed by now, but Game Freak is very good at creating lore with incredible potential (AZ, parallel universes, Looker, etc) and totally disregarding them later on.

Real answer since nobody's found it yet: it's the source of Galar particles, which is essentially a dangerous substance that can force Pokemon to go on a rampage if they're exposed to it and even nearly drove one of the legendary Pokemon to madness.

My headcanon is that Eternatus is a mutated mega evolution of some ancient pokemon. A "poisoned" evolution if you will. Something to do with AZ as both games have an event that happened 3k years ago

Eternatus landed 20,000 years ago. Its awakening (Darkest Day) happened 3,000 years ago, conveniently at the same time as the Kalos war.

My guess is that the Anistar Sundial and the Ultimate Weapon were made from Eternatus's meteorite, and the resulting weapon firing caused it to wake up.

But that didn't happen because GF doesn't care about continuity.
