NEW renders. Meaning they modeled and textured potentially 700+ new monsters just for this dex? For comparison's sake, the Gmax Charizard on the page just seems to be using the official art, so there are varying levels of work being put into this?

I'm not justifying shit. If they made new models and renders for a fucking dex then what happened with SS? I've seen Charizard enough times to know that he doesn't have that chin fat on the X/Y models.

G-Max Charizard is not the artwork. He appears to be the actual model, perhaps edited slightly to look as similar to the art as possible, but the additional shadows on his toes make that unlikely as that detail doesn't match.

idk why they bothered to make ugly 3D models when you can tell they are supposed to be more or less 3D versions of the official artwork, why not just use the official artwork?

No, they just took the existing models, posed them, and maybe changed the shader.
