But also remember that you can pull off these kind of shits and still be rewarded (like all the millions of copy sold of FO76) only if you're a big rooted franchise. Street Fighter V is now a mediocre game but at launch it was pure garbage, yet there were still thousands of fans defending it purely because it was Street Fighter. On the other hand, look at a much younger franchise, for example Smash Bros: Sakurai got it much worse than both Pokémon SS and SFV despite not having done anything wrong (and this comes from someone who hates Fire Emblem and all its fucking reps).
