The comments they made on remakes before (being both a nostalgia kick for those old enough and a chance for newer players (ie the target market) to have a chance to experience it) still have merit today, given the fact they remade Yellow for Switch, despite it being on 3DS VC, despite it being remade, essentially, in Gen III. I didn't expect Galar to get an upper, but the DLC, while being an essential Upper, doesn't rule out another game being launched this year either - the amount of staff needed for a DLC segment is nowhere near the number needed for a whole game-remake (even one with as little staff as USM had with 82) and depending on what assets they keep for the remakes (along with the engine) that also cuts down strain on their developmental process.
There's also the rumours about the new Switch upgrade launching this year, which would almost certainly need a new Pokémon game to launch during holiday sales to help drive it, given most big Nintendo first party titles are nowhere near launching their next title.
