Centipedes are actually great for humans. As gross as they look, seeing a centipede in your house isn't necessarily a bad thing as they feed on other household pests. Like your own little house defender pokemon lol.

Feel like he it's a biiiiit more roundness to him. There is something to paper toy look, it depends on the artist I guess. If nothing else giving Kabu Ninetales and Arcanine leading up to it is the type of style contrast Pokemon needs to take advantage of a heck of a lot more.

Something about Centiskorch—the flaming eyebrows and mustache I guess—reminds me of a samurai, though I'm not sure…why. It also kinda reminds me of a Chinese dragon or Volvagia from OoT.

I also appreciate that Scolipede and Centiskorch are both designed to do that thing centipedes are known for where their tail and their head look identical to fool potential predators.

Actually hold on a moment…No, that totally does look like a samurai helmet. Like on purpose. Bulbapedia ain't mention jack shit about that.

Why would Centiskorch be based after a samurai? Why does that make sense? I think the resemblance in intentional but IDK

I don't think it's intentional on the Pokemon itself, but the Centiskorch-samurai helmet is probably a nod to Kabu himself hailing from Hoenn.
