There is a confusion going on when Devianart starts these kinds of poke-competitions.
>Variants are NOT fusions!Some people started making variations of grass-mons and dog-mons which inevitably lead to some designs looking like fusions. (a tundra-Chikorita looking like a Snover-Chikorita fusion). Then some erroneously thought that this is what the concept of variations meant, but it WASNT!

>Realistic doesn't mean Detailed!Realistic mons ARE the cringey Ghostly-bats and the salamander-Dragonites. They follow the artistic direction of GameFreak which is basically: animals, but magic. They tackle the question: From what real animal did this pokemon mutated from?
Detailed means realistically rendered. The proportions are cartoony, but the texture heavily modified. The reference for this modification doesn't need to be from real world analogues of the creature, instead just adding more detail into the simplified-manga-features, like shine on a metal-mon, or goo on a slug-mon.
However the two CAN coincide. For example when rendering Meowth, aside from giving it fuzzier texture and detail on its ears, you may add on it a cat's nose...because it's a cat, and it would look bizzare if it didn't.
