You know what I want to ask about? Setting. I've noticed lot of people's autism gets up in a dander if you do anything that doesn't quite fit with the games, but then also say some things with the games don't count either. On the other hand I rarely see people trying to set up their character in a setting like the anime, maybe because it's a bit of a clown fiesta. I guess you could say some people skew more towards Adventures than the games sometimes, depending. But there's a lot more options. I mentioned this a couple threads ago, but that girl who magical girl transforms with the help of her male Pikachu doesn't totally make sense with a Bill related backstory, but makes a ton of sense if you consider that ReBurst is an official Pokemon project. On a different note maybe if your character was from one of those Pokemon tabletop game, they might more closely be tied to those mechanics like weird halfbreed Pokemon. Of course Pokemon isn't any stranger to unusual Pokemon like regional forms or the TCG's delta species, and with enough justification Pokemon like Jiggs, Clefairy, and Magnemite lines can have Kanto forms that lack the types from later gens. Actually getting back to the TCG, despite the TCG being popular and there being at least two games with their own TCG related universe, nobody bothers to make OCs for that, although that might be due to lack of real Pokemon. But that shouldn't stop you, just mix it up. Maybe ReBurst is card related in that universe and weird shit happens because of it? Maybe you can have what seems to be a normal human world, but pull a SMT and have reality collapse around you because it turns out human society was separated from the Pokemon one in the distant past and due to the fuckery of Mystery Dungeons the world begin to re-fuse, filling in a plot hole set up by Rescue Team's Friend Areas (and I guess the Gengar/Gardevoir/Ninetales plot) and Explorer's distant future. Do you want me to go on? Because I can get into more apocrypha.
