Pokémon fans and gacha games are completely opposite. Pokémon fans expect frequent instant gratification, especially in the more recent games. It's gotta be easy to hit level 100, it's gotta be easy to get tons of money, it's gotta be easy to get rare Pokémon, Pokémon are too difficult to catch, etc. Gacha games, by design, are prolonged log-in games based around chance. As a free player, it's entirely feasible to obtain every character with a bit of luck, but it takes a while to reach that point. I had all of the 60 original characters by November, 42 of which needed to be rolled. That was about 4 months. I also had the majority of new characters released, and I was a free player.
Masters' biggest thing to me is that the only thing you can pay for is more gems to roll, but they give them out so frequently that you don't really need to worry about it. You cannot buy more resources for maxing characters. Everyone has to go through the grind, so I can't see how it's greedy. It's grindy, but not greedy.
