That's only if by competitor you mean "automatically as financially successful" which is obviously absurd

The very simple reason there's no competition is that... there's no competition. All the "Pokemon killers" either straight up suck ass or are limited by unappealing factors like, say, TemTem being an MMO - even if the game was super great and everyone loved their monsters most people wouldn't bother with a fucking MMO. You don't need a huge and expensive multimedia conspiracy to get your footing into the market and the people's minds, think of a game like Undertale which came from fucking nowhere from (relatively speaking) a penniless nobody, yet it's in fucking Smash now
