My theories:
1. Far more people actually DID go out and buy copies for every person who said they were boycotting and it wasn't a bluff.
2. Go brought in far more people than initially thought.
3. People were just thirsty as fuck for a console Pokemon, regardless of quality.
4. The least likely, but still likely option: TPC has so much money that they outright bought 10 million copies from themselves so they can sink them into the ocean and say they sold so many. High sales are, ironically, very good marketing and lead to more sales.
I only wish I knew someone IRL who has more contact with kids, so I can learn if kids really are playing fucktons of gen 8, or if TPC really did buy 24 million copies from themselves and throw all 35 million into the ocean.
