however the exploration and world building is pretty well done; the npcs talk like actual people with problems instead of "wow X is so great!" or "Did you know if you did X, Y will happen?"
the pokemon distribution is quite varied and gives you a chance to create a unique team and having unexpected shit like
the fake day care and a gang of scraggys was genuinely really cool to see

the reason makes sense in-universe and only serves to punish people who try to blitz through the game with 1 or 2 pokes
the characters are a mixed bag, though I only really dislike AME and the other self-inserts and how much praise they are given by the world
aside from the character designs, self-inserts, over abundancy of characters, and cringy dialogue every now and then the game actually isn't that badly written
there are several charming characters, team meteor is actually a threatening force, and most if not all character motivations are consistent and make sense
though in my "opinion" i think the bad story and deviant art ocs actually enhance the experience because using pokemon for torture and killing is beyond hilarious in a serious setting
tl;dr, the world-building and gameplay make up for the cringe-tier story
but that's just my 2 cents
