Would the overworld mechanics of the Ranger games been good for a mainline game?

My question is, what would happen if you took the overworld mechanics of a ranger game, and paired it with the turn based combat of a traditional mainline game (either in 2D or in 3D)?

My personal thoughts is that you might wind up a better version of the wild area from SWSH, but im still interested in what yall think.

(also, what was your favorite ranger game and why? I remember Shadow of Almia the most fondly, but I prefer the mechanics of Guardian signs.)
