So this is gonna sound weird

But I want to make a pokemon fangame, but I can only get invested in my own plot and fakemon if I were to run a tabletop game of it since I don't know what dumbass shit happens to my plot anymore

This thread is for work shopping the fakemon and such since I can't discuss it with my friends who will play the game

Workshopping every part of the series Fakemon, Megas, regional forms, the betas, etc

Ya know fair, let me go over a few things I got very rough

Focus on things like properly give the pikaclones evolutions, such as Togedemaru gaining a raichu like tail to shove into the ground so its spiky body can act as an electric flail, or Emolga getting a more flight suit look with its ears folding over its eyes like goggles

>regional forms
Could utilize the distortion world+ultra wormholes to effect the typings of various pokemon, could possibly even lead to alternate versions of ultra beasts

>Betas
Pretty self explanatory put in those Beta pokemon that are sorely missed like tangles alternate evolution, just tweak it a bit maybe make it grass fairy and make it kind of give it a kejourou vibe with long vine hair

I can think of more and I'm hoping this thread can be of help cause I wholly admit I got a long way to go, but i dont want people to just make ideas for me

A campaign featuring Ultra Space and finishing off Rainbow Rocket would be pretty based.

Ultra beast forms of legendaries that you can cleanse and use on your campaign team like purifying shadow pokemon would be cool. A starter trio including Poipole would be nice. I feel like Game Freak abandoned UltraSpace right when it got interesting in USUM with an Evil Giovanni finding a wormhole.

Rainbow Rocket Remnants could be of intrigue, the various mistakes made in on their own trying to access ultra beasts leading to a horrific cross of ultra space and the distortion world, so regional forms would more be distortions to the pokemon

Alternate world legendaries being heavily effected and cleansing would be cool since they likely went mad from it all, and thats how you can be best friends with a Fire/Fairy Celebi

I wonder how the region would be overall effected depending on this is new or been going on for years. though first maybe I need a basis for the region though never could find a satisfying place on our world for a good pokemon version

A region based on Utah would be pretty cool. The north has big cities like Provo and Salt lake and a cold snowy climate, South has Bryce Canyon as a wooded area, St George would be a good town for desert/ red rock area and its next to Vegas if you want a second big city to contrast the North’s cities. You could easily have a varied region with lots of biomes by choosing to set it in Utah.

I’ve said it before in another thread about how with time travel and ultra space you could rationalize the pokemon wars set before the Kanto storyline could be Rainbow Rocket trying to take over the world using Ultra Beasts

We could parallel mormons in a funny way by making it so that as Ultra Beasts are appearing in the world groups of people start to view them as latter day pokemon saints that Arceus created to replace the previous pokemon generations.

The distortions and ultra space stuff sounds cooler as a videogame though. If it’s table top then it could be hard for people to imagine what things would look like without very good descriptions or good concept art of areas

dumbest part of the plan is that I have no skills in making such a game I just write plots for campaigns. But eh still gonna run a game with or withoit making the video game after, its just why I started working on a pokemon campaign but not the only reason I need. When you have a friends who detonated love powered nuke in a city, you wanna see what they do to pokemon

Most pokemon fan games are made in RPG make which really simplifies everything. I’m not sure in RPG maker does gen 4 or 5 graphics though. I think using a combination of assets from Platinum and BW2 could ease the burden a lot.

I really like the art style of the fan game Phoenix Rising and I think they used RPG Maker xp with pokemon essentials for that. Check out the Romhacks and fan game’s general board. It has a pastebin to get all those things to start making a fangame

I'm not starting a fangame anytime soon(or know how to use RPG maker), I'm doing the tabletop first with no idea how long it will take

Well, I’ve got programming skills and the idea sounds interesting. I’d be down to try working on a team to build it if you ever get to it. Not sure how we’d find each other, but I lurk around here for whenever you get the desire to start it

though this thread is for getting a plot together for the tabletop, a plot players are bound to change but adaptings the fun part. We could make a discord server to work on this stuff if this thread goes well and you wanna work with me in the future with this

anyways this thread is for discussing plot or fakemon

I got a few ideas such as a Lanturn evolution where if you evolve a female Lanturn with a male chinchou in your party, you get a nice proper anglerfish pokemon, or another gender associated and more obvious pokemon is a mantis where females are bug/dark and males are bug/ghost

To differentiate it from mainline games you could make Natures work a little differently. Instead of a 10% decrease and increase, you could make it a 15% decrease and the base stat that would get increased is increased by an amount equal to how much the other stat was lowered. Pokemon like Alakazam would get more variation since then its not obvious to choose Timid or Modest because now the increase in lowered so one might elect instead to take a nature that reduced SpAtk by 15% and it hits a little harder, but it could increase Def by 20.25 Base Stat to make it so it’s not so weak to physical hits now.

And that sounds like a very interesting idea to help vary the playing field. It is important for a fan game to try new things to stand out not to only evolve the base concepts
My big concern has been looking at all modern pokemon keeps adding to the lore and if all that together is too cluttered. Not that I'd know how a pixal game could use gigantamax sprite wise

Invent your own lore. Don’t feel trapped into fitting it into the official universe. Some stuff like the lake trio or all of the non box art Unova legendaries are so shallow lore-wise that you could give them an actual purpose to exist.

Ultra Beast genetically enhanced versions of ancient pokemon would be pretty sick. Like Genesect could be the first genetically enhanced pokemon using Ultra Beast DNA and a Kabutops and more beast enhanced versions could be created after its success.

There’s so many half-baked ideas from TPC that finding lore to expand and expound on shouldn’t be difficult. Like a class you could play as instead of a new pokemon trainer could be to start as a pokemon watcher like Tracy, Young Oak, and the Magikarp obsessed guy from the anime.

And I like ultra beasts having a central role in how this utah region has so much crazy shit going on well ultra beasts and team rocket really really fucking up

I always liked how Ash Greninja could only mega by knocking out a pokemon. It made the Mega feel like I earned to use it in the battle. You could try making it so Mega’s only last 3 turns and getting rid of the need for megastones but it would be hard to incorporate Dynamax and Gmax moves

Not sure on only 3 turns since I dont wanna just change megas too harshly, and gigantmax 3 turn ruie is unpopular. Megas can be given to sorely needed for it pokemon, avoiding making another mega rayquaza

Gmax and Z moves I dont think is too possible since itd require cool unique animations and even finding something to make pixel sprites would be a miracle

Making good animation for sure would be difficult, but I personally wouldn’t mind if something like a Z Fire move just showed a combination of Heat Wave’s red tint combined with a scaled up flamethrower. I’m sure copying the assets for two different moves and combining them is possible.
For all the 3DS games I had to put the game setting to skip battle animations because they took so long anyways so I never even saw the new move animations

they were very extravagant super moves, like main thing of eevees was all the eeveelutions, the Tapus gained giant bodies to fight with, but those are the specialty z moves

It’s ruined. Pokémon tabletop is plenty hard enough to pull off without trying to throw in completely made-up Pokémon with made-up movesets and made-up stat spreads. You’re shooting your own campaign in the foot if you do this.

Making romhacks of the 3ds games exists. There were a few like Pokemon Star which is based on USUM. If you just used that as a base you could straight up use the animations from the game for the rom hack, but you would lose the huge community of the gen 3 and 4 rom hackers that can help people learn to use the tools.

There’s already several GBA rom hacks that incorporate Z Moves so I would download a rom hack with z moves and look at how they did it. I think the best quality looking rom hacks are both Saffron and Phoenix Rising and I don’t recall using Z moves in those
