So say you're young again , starting at late gen 2 / gen 3+ like I assume most people on this board did. Why does this appeal to you the most, or why is it one of the most appealing designs? What makes it tower over similar potbellied, bipedal lizards like Tyranitar and Aggron and such?

I'm 22 and started with Yellow, but you actually have to be retarded if you can't understand the appeal of Charizard. Its a starter, so everyone had easy access to it unlike Pseudo-legends that you can only get at the end of the game, and its the most dragon-like Pokémon of the first two gens even if it isn't a Dragon Type. When you also include its large role in the anime, its only natural Charizard would appeal to the vast majority of people

I always liked aggron the most, but he beats dragonite because he looks more fierce and Tyranitar b/c wings and fire.

Also, when I was a kid i didn't realize pokemon evolved past level 40 by level up. I thought you had to trade for them or something lol.

Nah. I understand why people like venusaur, and I like it too, but the other two were just destined to be more popular. Think of it from a child's perspective.
Charizard is a fire type, which is way cooler to people than water or grass, and it's a dragon. No further explanation required.
Blastoise is a turtle, but it's a turtle with cannons. You don't have to see it do anything to know what it does. It looks strong.
Venusaur can shoot solar beams and deadly powder and shit, but when's the last time you've seen a flower do that? What it does isn't evident, so you've just got the design. And a big toad with a flower growing out of its back just seems less strong than a dragon or a tank turtle.

I guess you could also make the anime argument for squirtle, since while bulbasaur was a good battler it was kind of a den mother type figure while charizard was the badass and squirtle was the funny guy with the sunglasses. Kids are going to gravitate towards badasses and funny guys more.
But please, post more polls, they're interesting. Treecko's my favorite starter, very happy to see it place well here.
