>>42635284Because most games are at least better balanced than Pokémon, be it by patches or not. There's also more than just being able to make good choices. Take fighting games, for example: if you play a low tier character against a high tier, there's a fairly good chance you will lose, but you still have tools, and your own skills, to make up for it.
But in Pokémon, if you bring Falinks against, let's say, Dragapult, there's little you can do, even with super effective moves like Throat Chop. You can't just win the matchup by reading an input and punish it, you just have to predict an action and look for the best possible outcome, and in those kind of matchups, pretty much all outcomes result in defeat for you.
Take any major of LoL, Smash, anything like that, and look at the character picks ofthe top 8, you'll probably find many different characters. Now look at the top 8 of any VGC or the best teams of the OU ladder on Showdown, most of them if not all have the same mons, same archetypes, even more so in VGC. Pokémon is a deeply unbalanced game, some Pokémon are objectively better than others, and having different ladders for each tier on Smogon is one way to add diversity with the tools we're given.
