what does this have to do with choosing the less-interesting ruleset on purpose?
smogon already bans a bunch of stuff that's allowed on cartridge, why can't they just go with cartridge learnsets instead of "ummm ACKCHYUALLY a chansey that knew wish was distributed in gen 3 almost 20 years ago!!!"

If no, it's illegal.

If game freak actually wanted to make move set nerfs like that they could just make it so transferring a wish Chansey to the newest games makes it forget wish. The fact that they didn't means it wasn't something they were seeking to nerf.

Smogon's Gen 8 OU is actually only Pokémon from Sword / Shield, you can't make more legal than that.
Also, among common counters in OU, only three are using Knock Off : Crawdaunt, Bisharp and Thievul (kek), the most commonly used one is Polteageist and others include special attackers such as Hydreigon, Gengar, Chandelure, Cursola, Reuniclus and fucking Butterfree.

Galarian Corsola isn't UU because of an overabundance of "unoriginal movesets", it's UU because it's too passive, can't do anything to special sweepers except burn them which is a minor inconvenience while they can not only brute force through it or even set up on it.

My mistake, they only checked origin markings for non-tournament online games in ORAS, not XY or gen 7.
I think they are currently checking them for SwSh ranked battles but I'm not sure.
I still think it should be standard.

am I reading this wrong or are you claiming that polteageist is more common in OU than bisharp and crawdaunt?
Also bisharp doesn't get knock off in gen 8 yet. Obstagoon is another common knock off user that corsola cannot touch at all, and I guess there's also centiskorch.

It is insanely easy to push around. Hates hazards, forced to run from Knock Off and Toxic, gives away free Nasty Plots and hazards, loses wars of attrition with special attackers, weak to common Ghosts, can't heal at all vs Substitute and especially Magic Bounce, the list goes on. It stops Conkeldurr very nicely but otherwise it gets abused by too much of the meta.

I think he's saying that's how Dynamax treats it, and they're using how Silvally's signature move works to justify making Hidden Power & Judgment work the same way (Max Move is NOT Normal and instead the type varies).

Ahh, okay. Still seems weird to apply logic to a move that is not programmed, especially with moves like Weather Ball not conforming to these same rules. At least Judgment makes sense if Silvally's clone works that way.
