I just found this off of KYM.
It's the Gen 2 beta matchup type.

Wow, I guess they wanted steel to be useless at first.
But why did they take Steele's weakness to electric away

Don't kid yourself. literally every other rpgs have metal/mech/steel enemies be weak to electric. It's a common RPG trope.

I can see mechs being weak against electricity seeing as they are machines with electrical components that could be damaged by power surges.
But when it comes to magical monsters made of metal, fire and water would be more logical weaknesses.

If water is weak to electricity because of metal minerals in water make it conduct electricity, then moreover steel should be weak to electric.
Or you can think of steel types like robots which should like electricity like grass likes water, hence resistant.
