It's kinda like flanderisation, where you know, a minor aspect becomes heavily exaggerated and more consumed.
Did Gen 1 really have facial hair mons other than Kadabra and Alakazam? Then after that maybe Raikou and Entei, probably Sealeo? Then Gen 4 definitely had Kricketune and Probopass. It doesn't help that a lot of the facial hair mons complained about are the main difference of regional forms that lack it.
It's the same with the other shit like muh fursuits, muh plastic round toys, muh objectmons, muh overdesigned, etc
