at least in pokemons case, they indeed have said that they are making the games easier starting wtih gen 6 IIRC, which one reason for this is indeed to keep holding the attention of children who spend time on smart phones or whatever Matsuda said during that ORAS interview. I think he said that it is made easier inttentionally (again) but idk how he worded it before sword and shield came out
