They shouldn’t, every monster collector should try to create its own feel to give it their own identity. The genre won’t grow with everything trying to be Pokemon.

Because replicating a distinct artstyle to the point where you can create new designs that emulate the same "feel" is extremely difficult. I find it funny that it took people 20 years for people to realize that GF's design philosophy had more merit than people give it credit for.

The two birds are neat.

Fire bears are ok, I guess.

Fire coyote is not bad. Nothing special, but terrible.

A thief raccoon? Wow, never saw that before, so original.

Skull is really bad. Looks like a seven year old trying to be edgy.

Deer is clearly a Xerneas wannabe, but I think it's different enough to say that it's its own thing.

Acorn is...meh.

Blue snake looks borderline unfinished.

The only ones I really like are the chess family, although I think the king could use another redesign to make it look like it won't fall over from a strong breeze.

Not everything on tumblr is red nose butch lesbians. I'm saying it's a bland semi-anime artstyle, with simplistic outfits, one of each color as to not offend anyone, artificial quirks (hair dye, holes in clothes, tattoo, like someone read a book on what's cool).. boring and amateuristic.

that pic is for showing off some of the different possibilities within the character creator. Of course you'd show off different skin colours, hair colours and types, clothes, and little stuff like tattoos. That's what it's for.
I will agree that it's somewhat bland, but honestly, if you were to pose Pokemon Npcs in a standard pose with smiling face it wouldn't be much different

the starters introduced weaknesses and resistances, bugs introduced pokémon that evolve quick and then become useless, psychic and dragon are supposed to be the uber types that signify the end game, etc
there's an article by tajiri about MOTHER and how RPG monsters need to convey gameplay concepts in their design. that's pretty much the basis of pokémon
though they fucked that up around gen 4/5

Kindred spirits actually did a good job on those, not like temtem...

Kindred spirits looks so bad with the gameplay ive seen even though its in early stages but most times the combat stays like this even when released looks like a stiff soulless unity game.

This literally is not going to work forever with an ever increasing roster. Plus Pokemon isn’t like other RPGs in which you just slay monsters and move on, Pokemon still can’t even get the story department right despite being an RPG. The expectation is for you to grow attached to them. You can’t forget the trading and battling (the social aspect between other players) is still a corner stone of this franchise.

I find the Kindred Fates designs capture the pokemon appeal quite well. Much better than TemTem did at least. It's exactly the sort of thing people on this board clamor for with elemental semi-monstrous animals, but done in more muted tones instead of the plastic look Temtem went for.

Unless you just think they lose points for not having the Pokemon logo slapped on them?

Because simplicity died a long time ago, which was the reason I preferred Pokémon over the non-nonsensical designs of Digimon back in the day.

Also, I'm gonna go ahead and be that one guy, this is what the battle system of the current generation of Pokémon should be.

Not sure how exactly one has bad taste for not liking the same things you do. I in fact enjoy turn based RPG's quite a lot, but the turn based formula has been the same for generations without introducing anything different to make it more engaging. Go look at any other popular turn based RPG's of the past decade and then tell me what Pokémon has to offer that makes it stand out regarding its combat system.

Perhaps not something drastically different, but at least make the combat a little bit more engaging rather than two animations and some bits of dialogue in battle?

Thinking that real-time battles are somehow a natural and obvious evolution is why you have bad taste.

Type advantages and hold items.
There's actually tons of depth in Pokemon's battle system, it's just that the single-player campaign never takes advantage of any of it because Gamefreak for some reason refuses to include a hard mode.

it's not true, pokemon design is specific and all pokemon are in fact made with that standard. Dracovish is awesome, Zacian and Zamazenta are awesome, Grimmsnarl and his evolutions are awesome, hattrene and it's evolutions are awesome, gen 8 in general is based. Yeah, that's their intention, but at that point why have types at all?
You don't have to do a 2x damage boost for type advantages, anyway. You could do +25% so it's big enough that you have to take it into account, but small enough you can play around it.

I did see one comment from the devs that they were considering adding in number modifiers to the type matchups if their idea doesn't work out. I do agree that they probably should have at least something to start with though. Even a 10% bonus would reaffirm such an advantage without making it an instant-win
