It would need the bare minimum of two episodes for a full 6 on 6 to be remotely enjoyable or else it would just be a series of one shots, and the anime isn't going to dedicate multiple episodes to a battle that doesn't involve a main character

The Red Gyarados at least has the benefit of being a pretty obscure reference of Lance catching it in Johto (plus Gyarados has lost pretty much all of his recent battles- Misty's, Lysandre's, and TR's all lost); people already don't like that Leon's ace is Charizard in the games so its natural the anime version would get heat as well

I was thinking more that if Lance won they would go into a speech about how amazing Kanto is and how their trainers are so strong like they did in SM (in the games, at least). But come to think of it if this is Leon's first appearance he's definitely not going to lose because he still has to be the champion so that Ash can fight him. So carry on, I guess?

Its not about watching the anime; its about basic logic. Leon is the new guy using a brand new form of Charizard while Lance isn't that popular of a champion and isn't even showing off a Gigantamx form. At best, the match won't have a proper conclusion, but I am more or less certain Leon will win, and there is literally no chance of Lance winning
