Is Mewtwo still considered the strongest pokemon to you? It been dethroned since gen 4 to me 4-8 cover box legendary all outclass it with their OP abilites and feats

Ho-Oh can bring the dead back to life and Lugia has power over storms and the ocean.
Mewtwo is just some pissed off lab rat.
It was dethroned in gen 2.

I never bought the whole “we set out to create the world’s strongest Pokémon... and we succeeded” bit. Scientists can never rival the sheer power of nature, I knew there would be something else out there in future games that would blow Mewtwo out of the water. Canonically I believe Arceus reigns supreme, and always will.

The Arceus you can catch is just a fragment of the true Godhead.
It is obscenely powerful but there's no reason to assume nothing else can top it.

What's always been interesting to me is that the emphasis on paired Legendary Pokemon being built the same way has lead to Mewtwo being almost distinct in his stat spread, with only Darkrai being a lesser Mewtwo and Eternatus being gear toward health instead of physical attack. And give or take Pheramosa is took us 24~ years to get more than one legend that outruns him, too, so he's still gets easy super effective hits on whatever you chose to cover. It is pure psychic having ZERO defensive utility past Gen 1 that really hurts him.

Gameplay-wise no but story/canon-wise debatable. Maybe not strongest but definitely God-tier.

RR Giovanni having Mewtwo at his disposal was implied to be enough to have him be taken seriously as the leader, even among Cyrus who legit had a Pokémon that controlled space/time.

This, also Poké Balls significantly weaken the powers of Pokémon they catch, this is why Cyrus uses the Red Chain and gives you the Master Ball because he has no use for it.

Lorewise, I think the 4th gen legends (Dialga/Palkia/Giratina/Arceus) would be considered the strongest with all that time and space and creation mythology bullshit.

From a gameplay standpoint, I feel like the remake-Hoenn ones are the most broken ones. The primals+Mega Ray are really fucking strong.

If I had to choose a new Mewtwo-like Pokémon, something that isn't the "epic universe controlling Pokémon" but still really offensive and powerful, I think I would just pick Zacian.
