Pretty much every major battle after island two. Aether Paradise Guzma and Nanu are good examples, but unless you're grinding like fuck or minmaxing you're pretty much guaranteed to have at least a couple of battles put up a legit challenge.

Salamence? Mediocre? You must be joshing me. Even if you just get a Munchlax if you know what you're doing it will evolve right into a Snorlax not too far after getting it. You also get a Ribombee and an Eevee early on too. So bullshit US/UM isn't balanced. It's just as balanced as BW2 having multiple OP fire types around the second badge less than an HOUR into the game.

Bagon is useless until level 50, unless you want to chain for the Salamence but at that point you will have spent a couple hours trying to outplay the game. It's not like it's just handed to you. Snorlax I can understand but picking Bagon to prove your point doesn't make much sense.

Keep in mind that balance is relative in this case. GF never really knew what they were doing but USUM is the closest they got to what felt like competent game balance. It's all still easy if you know how what can break the game.

Snorlax is only found if you re-explore Route 1 to get to optional areas, so by the time it evolves it’d be roughly equivalent to the time you’d catch Snorlax in Gen 1

That thing is a shitmon that is outclassed by most of Johto's low powered normals and it doesn't help you can get Growlithe on the same route, Snubbull and Miltank west of Ecruteak. Plus it lacks any real distinction to it compared to other normal types. It's just a bland, dry cut reindeer without any real perk to using it like everything else. It's the most boring mon in the dex.
