Look. I fixed the Gym Leaders from pokemon Crystal.
Now they have more pokemon from the Johto region.

The Pokémon should fit the Gym Leader thematically, not just in type.

Falkner is based on a falconer. Murkrow and Noctowl fit but Natu is too 'exotic'. Keeping a Pidgey would be a nice throwback to the previous game.

Bugsy uses bug-types that are easy to obtain early on (scyther was available in Goldenrod' bug-catching tournament). Shuckle doesn't really fit him.
Whitney uses cute Pokémon so Girafarig needs to go.
Morty doesn't have many options.
Chuck doesn't seem like he would use Heracross, it's more bug-like than human fighting.
Jasmine shouldn't have every steel type in the game, there needs to be one for the player to discover themselves.
Pryce is actually pretty good.
Clair is a clash of two themes, dragon egg group mons and serpents. Keep one theme and lose the other.

I'd give mega evolutions to the Kalos leaders' aces. I really likes how SwSh gave the gym leaders gigantamax mons and it would've been cool if megas had been utilized that way in gen 6.

Mega evolutions really needed more distribution in gen 6 in general.
Dynamax is largely a shit mechanic but at least they had the sense to stop you from using it against every random trash trainer.

I think Farfetch'd would suit Falkner, fits the samurai theme, low enough BST to not be too strong for a 1st gym, and from the perspective of Gen 2, at the time it was a Kanto mon that was only available via an ingame trade and used by no (or hardly any) enemy trainers, so the average kid player wouldn't have been exposed to it much.

I mean, they were in kanto for LGPE, I don't see why this should be any different. Lorelei uses alolan sandslash, bruno uses alolan golem, agatha uses alolan marowak, and lance uses alolan exeggutor.

i know that upsets people greatly because of no miltank, but i always thought fairy was more prominent since everyone in her gym uses jigglypuff or clefairy and the entire gym is shaped like a clefairy.
you'd have to do more tweaking to keep her gym normal type than just make it fairy type in a post-fairy generation

Indeed for Gourgeist, also Exeggutor and Ludicolo, I'd keep Banette and Dusknoir though since Palossand is Gen VI and outside of maybe Spiritomb I don't really see any of the other Ghost-Type's fitting her.

Reorder the gyms so Viola is still first and while the desired route is Grant-Ramos-Wulfric you could do the three in any order, get a culmination battle against Clemont which reveals Mega Evolution and then have Valerie, Olympia & Korrina as the final trio, Valerie is just weird enough that I could see her knowing a decent amount about Mega Evolution through some weird I speak for the trees shit or whatever, Olympia & Korrina meanwhile outright should and do know a lot about Mega Evolution and so should've been the final Gym Leaders to face.

It's how I did my rebuilt, mostly. The exception is wilkstrom because that character is a fucking joke and theme was the only way to make it somewhat fun and elegant. Not like I had to stretch anyway.

I did a quick calc assuming both are level 15
>252+ SpA Totodile Water Gun vs. 0 HP / 0 SpD Forretress: 12-15 (23 - 28.8%) -- 37.2% chance to 4HKO
note that being max invested at the second gym is unrealistic, to say the least
and also that Forretress's special defense is ass and so a physical attacker would get bodied hard

Personally I would switch marowak with a vulpix, since the line is known for its curses and can learn stuff like will-o-wisp, confuse ray, grudge and omnious wind while marowak gets nothing ghost related. Also it's found in the forest south of Ecruteak. A koffing also works surprinsgly well too considering its looks, the fact that learns a bunch of ghost moves and it's found inside the burnt tower.
Also pheraps replace jynx with a cloyster. I know ice path is very close to Mahogany, but I think a cloyster would fit someone like Pryce much more than a jynx both aesthetically and in character.

Also, with the change to Falkner and Buggsy the two new types, Dark & Steel will be introduced to the player early on. For a fun surprise and to entice them to find more of the new types.

I also like the idea of Buggsy having a pure bug pokemon. Besides, Pinsir never really got to be in the spotlight for Gen 1 or Gen 2

If Johto had more early route fire types available, then yeah it'd probably (tho a bit iffy) be okay. The problem is that the only 2 fire types obtainable in the actual game are Cyndaquil (the starter) and Slugma (from an Egg you need a special code to obtain from Primo), so you'd basically skewer player favor to Cyndaquil, hurting both Totodile and especially Chikorita.
