Hau has a great premise, but is a shit character.
ALl he ever does is be annoying, a waste of your time, and never ends up seeming like he could threaten you in a fight.
If they want you to basically be the Blue of the game and be skilled, make the underdog have a much, MUCH stronger team. Have them not be so damn in your face and please, just make them try and be less relatable and more appreciative, like Wally. Who basically has the same plot concept without the brother or grandfather. Just a weak underdog who wants to surpass everyone including you, at least with Wally it felt like he could've had adventures and growth much like you. Hop doesn't, because he fucking stops you at almost every opportunity to fight you, thinking he will have this "Legendary battle" when in the series where all you have to do is press A to win, is impossible.
Even if he surprised you, that doesn't = good character overall.
