Other people mocked them, and brought up Stantler as an example. That argument got popular since Stantler is a horribly designed Pokémon, with an inflated anal wart for a tail.
The first set of people, out of spite, wanted to vote Stantler to be “Pokemon of the Year” on the google polls and started rallying for it by spamming the thing. For the sake of all the cut pokemon and whatever. No one told them the poll segregated each generation, and that this crusade of theirs would just ruin the Gen 2 poll for Pokémon that do deserve to be recognized as the Best Gen 2 Pokemon.
Meanwhile, Game Freak has sold 16 million copies of Sw/Sh so far, and that number willl keep growing.
