I myself find gen 6 Pokemon very boring and forgettable, it didn't help that the Kalos regional dex had so many Pokemon from prevoious gens, gen 6 Pokemon were kind of sidelined, it was Johto all over again.
The gen 7 dex is sort of similar but I find it has a few more standout designs I like, I also feel like gen 7 Pokemon had a bigger presence in the games and their designs fit the theme of the region very well, which gave me a stronger impression of them.
Now gen 5 is very polarizing, it has a lot of designs I like but also plenty of absolute stinkers. Sadly most of the early game Pokemon fit into the latter category so I think it can leave a sour taste in peoples mouths and skew their perception of the whole dex. Still, I'll take half a good dex over a whole dex of meh Pokemon any day.
