Wait, don't Cubone, Marowak, Bonemerang, Bone Club, and Bone Rush imply that bones = Ground-type? Why is everyone so certain it's either Dragon or Dark, with some fringe theories saying that it's Fire or Ghost?

I am certain it's dragon because it's made out of fucking dragon bones.
Nothing about the design suggests Ground, Dark, Fire, or Ghost.

Bones = Ground isn't a consistent rule - see Vullaby and Mandibuzz for instance. This new Regi's "bones" don't even look like real bones, they look more like statues. Dragon and maybe Ghost are the only likely options.

It's not a rule at all. It's literally just Cubone and Marowak, who I'm pretty sure were designed before types were a thing and only got Ground because the game had too many Normal types already.

It looks like Yveltal. It even has a "Y" eye pattern, and the other one, which is Xerneas-colored, has an "X" eye pattern.

Red-Regi is a Dark type. Yellow-Regi is a Fairy type.

Black/dark grey and crimson/maroon have often been used to represent the dark type.

Eg. Sneasle line, zorua line, pawniard line, darkrai, honchkrow, krookodile, crawdaunt, Yveltal, Nanu, Grimsley, Sidney.

dark grey and maroon are used to represent yveltal and nothing else
also it makes no sense for a golem to be made out of "Dark" whereas it's quite easy to imagine one being made out of dragon bones

made of dragon bones? It is just the top and lower jaw. Which it clearly uses for biting attacks which are dark type. Bite, Crunch, Jaw Lock.

Regis are your typical elemental golems, so their typing should be obvious like a starter or eeveelution. The most apparent thing about this Regi's design is the giant dragon skull, so the simplest answer is Dragon-type.
