Welcome to the Trips and Rotation Appreciation Thread: “I am sick and tired of the bait threads calling for fights between Smogon and VGC edition”
Every day there’s threads from either side debating whether the fan fic Smogon singles is better or worse than the official VGC doubles.
You know what? Both really are awful and are very simple. The best format is neither of those two. Triple and Rotation battles were the apex of critical thinking and strategy ever done, and they got removed in gen 7. Pre exp share it was a great way to train multiple pokemon at once. This thread is a space for us alphas who who played trips and rotation to reminisce on the old days when pokemon required real strategy to think what your opponent will do.
GD I had so much fun in this format when I was in middleschool. Me and all my friends would play and we had to create all kinds of new strategies to beat each other. Helping Hand was legitimately useful, you had to think about where pokemon should go so they could reach an attack on the right target, you had to consider if your opponent would rotate in either direction. Yeah, you can switch out in singles and doubles but its not the same when you have 2 or 4 pokemon to switch instead of the limited resources in 3v3 that you had to make work.
Are there any other anons out there who miss this format? The Blaze Black and Volt White 1 and 2 rom hacks feel like the only place to really play them nowadays and I miss when I had people to play against. A lot of the gen 7 and 8 pokemon would have been fun to use in these formats. I think Silvally especially would have had potential.
