>>42713303>>42713397Here's the thing, I went ahead and created all the content, story, progress, areas, then I had a laundry list of bugs to fix because I estimated that having the actual core game all in place, even if buggy, then fixing all the bugs, would be the fastest route to release. Maybe it would've been faster to do area > bugtest > area, but really, it could go either way.
Now the game would've taken several months longer than the release date to fix all of this up, BUT then I saw all of you guys discuss the games and really hate the overworld art and monster overworld art, and I thought, you guys, and the backers, deserve better.
So I reached out to the smartest and most talented cats from this board and chatted with them, many lending a direct hand on the game itself. Working together, we brought the entire world of the game and the characters to a whole new level.
Honestly, release dates weren't what was most important to me (although I really do want to ship this game out there). What was most important to me was getting the highest quality product to all of the people that believed in us, and in that regard I'm really satisfied with how the game is looking today.
I haven't added any new features or content since the content/feature lock, which was before the art revamp, so I promise you I won't add any additional features other than polishing/bug-fixing what's already in place. As soon as that's done the game will be out!
To be 100% honest the main culprit of the long development time? A newbie game dev making a project that's way too big for mostly one person, and then getting scarily sick. As for the too-big-project It's definitely an error in my judgement and one I promise to not make again.
