>>42720663The bigger problem with Ultra’s story is mostly the new stuff inserted into the base and the fact the new stuff is what is taking the central spotlight in place of what was SM’s big focus. (Example the only reason we don’t see Lillie chew Lusamine out this time was because we the player were busy dealing with Necrozma while that happens. Also Necrozma could have used more build up besides Ultra Recon Squad.)
But I generally preferred Ultra’s climax due to shit being at stake beyond just Lillie wanting us to save the bitch, (Necrozma eating the sun is a bad thing for obvious reasons if you study up on why the sun is important.) we get a proper fight with the fused alien monster and said monster would be hard as balls if you don’t know what to do. (Sucker punch, unaware and stun spore ftw for me.)
Plus Ultra gave the Aether family better closure. We see Lillie as a trainer and in a better environment, not having to take care of her abusive mother. (Most of what Lillie would have said on Exeggutor Isle is said elsewhere later so her arc didn’t take too much of a hit beyond just being less emotional and not being the big focus this time.)
Gladion doesn’t have to have the responsibilities of an adult forced on him/ stay in the place he was abused in.
To top it off, we see Lusamine take that first step towards changing for the better, if we bother exploring the post game. I’m a man who prefers good closure and I didn’t mind the changes so long as it lead to that.
