Casuals treat gen1 as evergreen, the current gen as the new hotness, and everything else as irrelevant filler garbage because the dex is bloated with pointless repetition like route 1 birds and bugs. You're just going to have to accept that only two gens and Lucario matter; this is not a franchise that builds continuously on from what it's already done, it's one that offers full line-wide refreshes periodically.
