I don't think any real poke balls from the game were ever in the anime before then except the standard poke ball. maybe safari ball but i dont remember

A useful plot device that never actually got used in the end. Ashes of the Past (fanfic, time travel) had my favorite use for it, though - an Absolutely Safe Location created by Arceus just in case it was needed, named "The Fortress of Gold and Silver". It looks like a Pokeball because Celebi suggested that's what it should look like when Arceus was making it. Arceus was sure to point out "It's not stealing when you created everything anyway."

and not in the meme way, but the way actual npcs of the series do, you genuinely show a lack of mental creativity beyond a machine
but whats even funnier now is that npcs post gen 7 now use different kinds of pokeballs

In gen I and II the other balls didn't have a design at all. That's why there were green and blue Poké Balls in the anime and Pikachu's Poké Ball has a lightning on it.

Though I do believe there was a giant Master Ball in Saffron City.

thats kinda wild. i wonder if it was intenional that the ultra ball can look like a U for ultra from the front but also an H for hyper from all around (hyper ball being the japanese name)
i always assumed the H was intentional but the U wasnt, but if it was designed way after the english name was chosen then it mightve been intentional
