>>42741812The DS titles are my favorites, in fact, but I still see them for what they are as I'm not particularly nostalgic for them. As games, they're still full of dull, shallow mechanics designed around the limitations of ancient hardware, terrible storywriting and worldbuilding (yes, even by the standards of a children's game) and lack personality and agency where they have no right to lack it, and I don't really care much for RNG-driven tryhard pandering "postgame" content. I prefer games I can play once or twice that are actually good, not a mediocre game I can mindlessly grind forever.
>it's not that we suddenly have standardsMaybe that is true, the standards of the "core" fanbase were simply just not that high to begin with. The gameplay features people cling to in these games are absolutely inane at times; see the obsession with preserving random encounters during the Legpiss fiasco.
>People who defend Sw/Sh aren't even defending them, they just deflect any criticism and try to convince us the other games were not as good, how is thata convinving argument to why a game isn't shit? It's true in most cases, I'm not sure how this is relevant to me though, I stopped caring about SS the moment I saw the first trailer confirming it was more of the same shit I already played with a few minor additions that might justify pirating it or buying a used copy down the road when my favorites are completely returned.
